Turning the community into a classroom
A wealth of knowledge surrounds all of us in our everyday lives, among our neighbors and in the history of our communities. Yet, students are too often expected to limit their learning to the classroom – and even worse, traditional textbooks.
We take every possible opportunity to enrich student learning and engagement by bringing experts into the classrooms and getting students out of them. Ancestors unKnown works with local partners to coordinate field trips and guest lectures that relate to the Ancestors Curriculum.
Examples of guest lectures and historically significant sites worth a visit for Ancestors students:
- Museums and Historical Societies
- Libraries and Archives
- Local Plantations and Burial Grounds
- Historians and Researchers
- Artists and Performers
