Family History Toolkit

With the Family History Toolkit, your child will become a family historian, making family history research a fun activity for the whole family!

The Ancestors unKnown toolkit provides young family historians with the tools and inspiration they need to research, save, and share stories about their ancestors and themselves.

Workshops and Special Events for all Audiences

Ancestors unKnown develops and leads workshops, lecture series, and other special events that encourage learning, sharing, and reflection about personal and untold histories.

With a unique approach to conversations about identity, inclusion, and untold histories, Ancestors unKnown is an ideal partner for businesses and universities that prioritise diversity, equity, and inclusion within their communities.

Our workshops appeal to audiences of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of research experience.

Available for small and large groups, online and in-person (whenever possible).

Topics include:

  • Introduction to family history research: why it matters and where to begin (1 or 2 parts)
  • What’s in a name? The loss and recovery of Black identities over time
  • Your story matters: discovering and celebrating your own story (creative expression workshop delivered in 1 or 2 parts)
  • Untold history topics, including:
    • the impacts of colonialism
    • migrations to the UK
    • resistance movements in the UK’s Black and Brown communities
  • Custom workshop or workshop series – choose from one of our popular topics listed above, or work with us to create a unique workshop for your participants, with themes related to family history research and other untold histories.

In June 2022, Ancestors unKnown hosted ‘Reclaiming Ancestors’, a 2-part workshop series for Harvard University’s American Repertory Theater.
